Connecting Perls – Western Balkans, Serbia, North Macedonia

Ruen Peak is the highest peak of the Osogovo Mountains with a height of 2,252m. The peak is located on the border between the Republic of North Macedonia and Bulgaria. From the aspect of military history, the old bunkers are important, and the directions of movement of revolutionaries during the Ilinden uprising were over Ruen since the area is difficult to access.

Ruan Peak symbolizes a mountain without borders, so the mountaineers from the Republic of North Macedonia and Bulgaria meet at the summit every year in August. The specific traditions and cultures of the two municipalities were presented (Kriva Palanka and Kyustendil).

The ascent to the top can happen at any period of the year, which takes about 2-3 hours from the old point located in the Toranica mine, about 18 km from the town of Kriva Palanka.
